Book Review of Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros
"I know, I fully sound like a lunatic, and this is way far outside my normal business/personal development comfort zone but this series is THAT good."
My favorite way to consume books is via word of mouth recommendations. If a friend I trust liked it, there’s a good likelihood it’ll mean something to me too. So in an effort to pay that forward for someone else, the Book Review series was born. These will be short, sweet, synopsis-focused & impact-oriented where I’ll also make suggestions on who I think would enjoy them, but ultimately you can decide for yourself. Also, as a fellow author - please note that my critiques are NOT toward the author themself EVER, and I admire & respect the work always. Healthy authors are able to recognize that their work isn’t for everyone (oh, I’ve learned this the hard way so many times), so my hope is my words help their work get one step closer to landing in the hands of the people it IS meant for.
You are going to want to DEVOUR this book. Again, if the book rating system is out of 5 stars, this is an absolute 10. After finishing Fourth Wing with that insane cliffhanger, Rebecca Yarros picks up Xaden and Violet’s story right where we left off, which helped my heart.
The only problem is, this book is 600 pages, and you won’t be able (or willing) to do anything in your everyday life until you finish. I’d highly recommend the audio book version just so that you can at least get basic household responsibilities done while you DEVOUR every word of this next adventure.
The romance is SPICY, the twists are completely unexpected, and you will be left feeling completely and utterly HUNGOVER once you finish.
My sister actually just started Iron Flame, book 2 in the Empyrean Riders series, and texted me yesterday wanting to know how she was expected to go back to normal life after this exciting adventure.
Also, be forewarned that this second book ends with just as insane of a cliffhanger as book one and you most likely are going to have so many more questions than you do answers.
So read at your own risk, or heed my advice to do it in audiobook version, because I’m telling you, my heart rate is going up just typing this thinking about this book. If I had to describe this series (because again, romantasy - not normally my thing at all) I’d say it’s like Twilight had a baby with Hunger Games who then had a baby with Divergent and then they had a baby with How to Train Your Dragon - except make it way more adult and spicy. Holy hell, I cannot WAIT until January (and yes, I most definitely like a psycho cult follower now have already pre-ordered the next book in the series, Onyx Storm).
When you finish, you will be left wanting more. And you can’t have it until January. So in the meantime, this website is the best deep dive that I found on the internet to satiate your cravings to understand more about Violet, Xaden, what everything means, and even get into theories and predictions of what’s coming next.
Also, it is reported that Michael B. Jordan’s production company has picked up the rights to turn this into a TV series but as far as I can tell online, production hasn’t started and casting hasn’t been announced. Which MEANS…we should discuss WHO should be cast for what (WHO WILL BE XADEN?!)!
PLEASE LET US DISCUSS BELOW
